Karen Wilcox – Artist
Karen’s paintings were originally inspired by her experience of drawing portraits of people with long standing mental health problems, attempting to express their loneliness, isolation and sadness.
She was intrigued by observing that although being in a room full of other people, there was no communication, individuals were seemingly trapped in their own inner worlds. This experience led to her decision to combine her desire to understand and help people with her artistic interest, so after completing a fine art degree she trained as an Art Therapist and worked in various mental health settings over a 27 year period.
She has recently taken up painting seriously. Her art work tends to be bold and colourful. Her most expressive art work depicts her interpretation of human emotions, including isolation, loss, love and hope through the use of colour, texture and simplistic forms.
